The idea of owning a family compound where we could all build homes and own our own businesses began for me over 3 years ago in a beautiful, hidden village in the Chattahoochee Valley in Georgia called “Serenbe”. This village was a utopia of cobblestone roads, gas lanterns on street posts, little shops, and artisans on the street corners everywhere you looked. What stood out the most to me was the organic, pesticide-free gardens and lawns. A step back in time with a forward-thinking approach to healthy organic living, as if we evolved over the last hundred years without the polluting of air, land, and water.

I presented the idea of farming to my sister Jackie and told her of the barndominium and tiny cabins, and we began drawing it out for generations to come. In all the excitement, we forgot that we didn’t have any land, nor did we own a tractor! If we were going to make this work, we would need the land to pay for itself and a more sustainable organic gardening system. We didn’t know how to drive a tractor anyway!! I did some research, and we purchased a Tower Garden and planted Aeroponic veggies. They were beautiful and would look amazing on our farm stand, at least 28 of them every 6 weeks. The time from seed to harvest was not enough to fund our dream.

I was searching for faster turnaround times so we could be profitable when I came across Famous Microgreens farmer Donny Greens on YouTube. He made videos showing how he cultivated a profitable life growing microgreens, and the turnaround time from seed to harvest was once a week! Sproutside the Box is a collaborative endeavor between my sister Jackie, me, Debbie, and our good friend Dawn.
